According to Ş. Məmmədli, the place name Təhlə reflects the well-known Təklə tribe.
- 1869
333 people in 29 families lived in Qaratəhlə.
- 1886
655 people in 67 families.
- 1919
A secular school was founded in Təhlə.
- 1926
Qaratəhlə had 842 inhabitants.
- After 1943
Part of the Təhlə community moved to the village of Ambartəpə on the Qarayazı plain.
- 2002
Population: 2,936 (1,446 men, 1,490 women).
- 2006
Qaratəhlə secondary school had 191 pupils and 13 teachers.
- 2024
